Lace day in Venice, awaiting Unesco recognition The occasion is the tenth anniversary of the UNESCO convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions and of the world day of cultural diversity for dialogue and development.

It is not for nothing that the project for the candidacy of Italian lace to the intangible heritage of humanity has already been presented, and is currently in a preliminary investigation phase. The day takes place under the patronage of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, in collaboration with the Venice Civic Museums Foundation. It is divided into two parts: the first concerns the enhancement of the ancient art of lace, starting from Italian excellence to reach different cultures, aiming at interaction in a dynamic of exchange and encouragement of intercultural dialogue; while in the afternoon, at the Burano museum, you will be able to admire the most evocative examples of the millenary art of Venetian lace.

The program includes references to cultures from all over the world: from Italy to Slovenia, from Cyprus to Japan, all linked through the lace thread. With the participation, among others, of Maria Vittoria Ovidi Pazzaglia, lace scholar and referent of the nomination project for Unesco. Some of the Italian communities that are part of the project, including Venice (Lace of Venice and Pellestrina), Bologna (Aemilia Ars), Varallo Sesia (Puncetto), Cantù (Bobbin lace), Chiavari (Macrameè) also participate in the theme work. ), Forlì (Meldola, Bobbin lace of art), Orvieto (Lace of Orvieto), Bolsena (Lace of Orvieto and Antico filet a modano), L’Aquila (the Tombolo Aquilano), Latronico (the needlepoint of Latronico ).
